We're constantly told to invest our money wisely when it comes to shopping for clothes. The 'price per wear' is something every budget-conscious person talks about. It merely means, how often will you wear the piece? Will the price you've paid for the item be justified by the amount of times you wear it?
So I decided to take a walk through my wardrobe and look at everything I bought last summer. These are the pieces that I've worn to death, that are still looking good - in short, these are the clothes and accessories that were completely worth the price I paid.
Overalls:
Anyone who follows me on Instagram, knows these Vero Moda overalls only too well. They're a late summer purchase. I bought them in the sales at the end of May with a view to wearing them in the monsoon. And can I just say I'm so glad I did! I've worn them through the monsoons, into the October heat, all through the winter, and now that it's summer once again, they're still in use.
They're made of linen, which is why they're super comfy in all weathers. They're also a size too large for me. But I liked them so much, it didn't matter that they were - and still are - a tad too loose. I feel it just adds to the appeal.
Also the fact that they're practically navy blue means that they go with everything in my wardrobe. I'm usually not really much of an overall person. But as this pair proves, give a girl the right kind of overalls, and she'll convert!
Shoes:
Slides were the big thing last year. I purchased these gold, slip on loafers from H&M at the end of Feb. I thought I might as well try something trendy, even though I didn't really like the look of them so much.
"I'll use them a few times," I said. "And since they're cheap, it won't matter when I chuck them in a few months."
How wrong can one person be? It's well over a year, and they're still going strong in my closet.
They're looking a little battered now, but I'm not ready to part with them anytime soon. They're so comfy. I can walk around all day in them. The fact that they're gold means that they add a little sparkle and bling to any casual outfit. They are so easy to clean too. One wipe with a wet cloth, and voila, bye, bye dirt.
I bought a pair of floral slides from Zara this season, as backup in case these give way. But I'll be honest, I'm still choosing these over the Zara ones. It'll be a sad day when I have to chuck these out. (PS: In case you like them, H&M has very similar slides this season as well. They come in blush pink and black. Size down though. I find their slides tend to come up big.)
These are the Zara slides that every YouTuber, their uncle and their uncle's cousin's first wife's former girlfriend had last spring and summer. I thought they looked really pretty in the store, but was actually quite unsure when I bought them. I remember telling my Mum,
"I'll probably take them back."
She told me I was crazy. They looked amazing.
People note, as that Rapunzel song goes, "Listen to Mother/Mother know best."
I cannot even begin to describe how much I love them! They look so good with literally any outfit. They're so well made, not a single pearl bead has fallen off. And I am not very nice to my shoes at all. The amount of compliments I have received when wearing them! And the amount of times I've been asked where I got them from! I seriously wish Zara would do another pair like this. The insides of mine are beginning to look a little scuffed up, and I wouldn't say no to a replacement. And if Zara don't bring out another pair, I'll just keep wearing these till they fall off my feet - literally. That's how much I adore them!
Tees:
T-shirts are a huge summer thing. So I'll just commend these two from Tommy Jeans. I purchased both last year, and they're both fantastic. I went into the store looking for the TommyXGigi collection, and came out with these.
They fit so well. I've worn them very often, but they've kept their shape and colour perfectly. Even the grey one doesn't look tired - and I've used it constantly at the gym.
The fabric is lovely and lightweight. But they're not sheer, nor are they fragile. I usually have to replace my t-shirts every six months or so, cos they start to look worn out and faded. But these guys are toughies. They've made it to the one year mark, and look like they're going to make it a year and a half at least.
I didn't really rate Tommy's stuff before, but you can bet I'll be a frequent shopper there from now onwards. I'm really pleased with these tees.
I don't have a proper pic of it, but I also really, really rate this cropped, black top from H&M. It's made of that silky material gym clothes are sometimes made of. I bought it to use inside things like overalls and stuff. And oh, it's absolutely awesome. Once again, it's one of those things that are so useful that you tend to reach for them again and again.
They had it in a pale pink as well, and I'm now wishing that I'd bought that one too! But since I did't, and they're no longer available, this one will have to do.
Dresses:
I don't know why I don't have a proper pic of this dress, cos I've worn it so many times! It's the perfect summer dress. It's short and girly - but not too short or too girly. It's also made of a decently thickish fabric - meaning it's not really see-through either. I bought this with a couple of others from Zara to decide which one I liked the most, and this won out.
This is one of those outfits that you can wear in the summer, and then add a tee or something underneath and layer it up for winter wear. (Although in Mumbai, you don't need to bother that way.) The way the dress is made, means that creases and crumples are forgiven. (Great, cos it's not that easy to iron those gathers properly.) I didn't wear it too much initially, but over the last seven months or so, I've been using it practically every week! It goes with almost everything. I've not bought a single dress this summer, cos I feel this one still works perfectly for me.
Jeans:
While denim is quite impractical in our summer weather, white jeans are such a summer staple. I bought these from Zara last year, and have worn them ad nauseam. (That means constantly to the point of making one sick, for those not up to Latin.)
They're slightly loose for me, which I love, cos that makes them more wearable in the heat. I didn't want the standard white denim. And these have this lovely embroidery down the leg, on both sides.
It just looks so pretty! They're also distressed around the pockets.
Which makes it looked lived-in, and makes you feel that even if they get stained, it'll be fine. Honestly, that's my biggest fear with white stuff. That I'll spill something on it - which I often do - or that something will run in the wash, and stain it. But these jeans just seem like they'll work stained or pristine. And that's a huge draw for me. I've worn them so often over the course of the last year, I'm surprised that they aren't stained already! But so far, they're doing great. I really can't see myself looking for any other white jeans while I have these. They're all I need.
Hoop earrings:
I've talked way too much about how these are a summer must-have, so I'll keep this brief. These are the hoops that I bought from Forever New last summer. They were a set. Small rose gold ones; larger gold hoops; and the biggest were the silver ones. I've worn them so much, the rose gold ones got completely discoloured, and I had to chuck them out. But the silver and gold ones are still going strong.
I've worn them a ton, and will obviously wear them a ton more. You might be able to tell that the gold ones are beginning to look a little grotty too. However, I'll keep wearing them till the very last minute. I do love a good summer hoop, and these are perfect.
Which brings me to the end of my 'most worn pieces'. There were some however that I barely used. They'll be up in my Monday post. My least used items (that were bought last year) and why.
Till next time,
MumbaiGirl
