Another Monday, another Riverdale character's style. Today happens to be Veronica Lodge, aka who I wanted to be when I was a child.
So I was thoroughly disappointed when Riverdale's Veronica emerged from her car. Sure, her character and attitude was on-point. But, what happened to her style?? Veronica was renowned for having the trendiest wardrobe in town. She was the one who set the style and the look at Riverdale High. She was the girl who could make cardboard boxes a fashion look. So why did she look like a librarian who wanted to hit the clubs only couldn't really get out of her prissy style? In a sad bit of irony, Veronica - the former fashion icon - has the most unwearable wardrobe of them all. Her style is too formal to hang out in, too sexy for the office and too prissy for clubs or dating. I mean, do you wear pearls and court shoes to the mall? Would you wear a miniskirt to the office? Or a matching blouse and skirt set to a club? Frankly, beyond meeting the in-laws for lunch, or a party with your parents' friends, I don't see how Veronica's style could work in the real world. That said, in case your in-laws or your parents are the partying sort, read on. You'll be the best dressed at that gathering!
For the first Veronica look, I've tweaked her style a little. She tends to wear miniskirts, but this one is a little longer in length. I felt that it makes the look a little more wearable. The skirt is something I found in a charity store in the UK and bought for five pounds way back in 2008. No, really! The blouse is from Forever New. The court shoes - a shoe style Veronica almost always wears - are from Zara.
My bracelet is Swarovski, but Forever 21 have very similar charm bracelet styles this season. The (faux) pearl earrings are from Next. In India you can find similar stuff in Accessorize and H&M. My (faux) pearl necklace is borrowed from my Mum. But if you're the street searching type, Hill Road and the like have stores that sell exactly this kind of necklace.
My next look is a dress from H&M worn with a vintage belt. Although the dress is from last season, H&M has this type of style running through the year. When I last checked, they had this in a dark floral print. It's quite easy to find similar belts to the one I'm wearing. From the roadside to the designer stores, there's one to fit every price point. My earrings, bracelet and necklace are the same as the previous look. Pearl earrings, a pearl necklace and a charm bracelet are Veronica's standard accessories. She wears them over ninety percent of the time.
For the last outfit, I chose a skirt from H&M basics and paired it with a black blouse from Bebe for that 'matching set' look Veronica loves. The shoes and earrings are once again the same. I've only switched the bracelet in favour of this beaded necklace that I've worn on my wrist as an off-beat take on Veronica's pearls.
Veronica's makeup is very work-friendly. She pairs a strongish lip - not always red. It's sometimes a berry tone - with neutrals. She seems to be the only one who wears some kind of eyeshadow, so I played around with a couple of different colours for my eyes.
Hers is actually a very easy look to replicate, unfortunately, it's completely unwearable for the most part. However, should you have occasions to look polished yet sexy, this is the perfect style to go for! If you have a hot date or a great party, I'd suggest you wait till next week, when I tackle Cheryl Blossom. She's got the party girl vibe down!
Till next time,
MumbaiGirl.
